“Balloons & Microphones”Today was the best day ever. Mom gave me a balloon and a hairbrush. That means it’s time for the living room concert. The balloon floats above my head like a spotlight. The hairbrush? That’s my microphone. I step onto the “stage” (a pillow), take a deep breath, and sing like a pop star. Loud. Like REALLY loud. Dad claps. Mom dances. Even my baby brother shakes his diaper booty. I sing the chorus five times. Okay, six. My dog howls along. He’s probably my backup singer. When I finish, I bow so low I almost fall over. The balloon bobs like it's clapping, too. | ![]() Rock Star Image Mom says I’m the best singer in the whole world. I think she’s right. I tell her, “Same time tomorrow?” She laughs. “Only if I get a balloon too.” Deal. When did “a balloon and a hair brush” turn into a family story for the ages? Share it in SKOOL! |

Issue #36
Is this what is supposed to happen?... (con’t from issue 35)
It was the best day of my life!
I had been spending the last 37 weeks worried about the little person that was growing inside of me.
When I saw that positive result on the pregnancy test, my entire outlook on life changed.
I was no longer just doing whatever I wanted with my body.
I was caring about the little person that my husband and I decided to create through our love.
It wasn’t an easy journey, but so worth it.
Let’s see where I left off, oh yeah…
Keep stress levels low because I am pregnant but…
First, I had the morning sickness which was stressful.
Second, there was all the talk of the world coming to an end due to Y2K.
Third, I was bleeding vaginally.
Fourth, MS made me a paraplegic.
Fifth, my heart rate went above 200 beats per minute.
Sixth, my husband had to be called back to the hospital because the doctors wanted to STOP MY HEART!!!!!
Seventh, my baby could die so we could save my life!
Eighth, why am I still in the hospital?
Ninth, complications for the baby just to do a test?
Tenth, waiting for the results from that radioactive isotope test!
Eleventh, what’s in the bag?
Twelfth, Oranges and needles?
Thirteenth, Do I have diabetes too?
Fourteenth, MS confirmed?
Fifteen, MS confirmed!!! How?
Sixteen, Call Mom to help?
Seventeen, How’s the baby doing?
Eighteen, What’s this pain I keep feeling?
Nineteen, Was I kicked by a horse?
Twenty, What’s next?
Twenty-One, Can I get an epidural?
Twenty-Two, What is this pain?
Twenty-Three, What does labor feel like?
Twenty-Four, Why am I wet?
Twenty-Five, Go to the hospital, really?
Twenty-Six, Are we gonna make it?
Twenty-Seven, I will not get into that wheelchair.
Twenty-Eight, isn’t it too soon?
Twenty-Nine, It’s a…
I never thought I wanted to be a mom.
I always thought it was an impossibility for me with all the things health- wise throughout my life.
I even told my husband that before we got married that I didn’t want to be a mom and I shared that with the priest that married us as well.
But God had other plans!
I know the list goes to 29, but I am sure I left some out.
After all 37 weeks equals 259 days and nights of stresses that all let up to this moment.
I received the epidural in my spine and how wonderful that was after being in labor all these hours.
My epidural worked so well that the nurse who was with me had to tell me when I was having a contraction using the monitors strapped to my belly.
“Okay, now get ready to push.” I remember hearing my nurse say several times and then I heard a long pause after the words, “It’s a….”
…Girl!”
“Congratulations! It’s a girl and she is NOT a preemie.”
She was 6 pounds 13 ounces and 19.75 inches long.
All these stresses lead up to this day.
The day I met my little girl!
The best day of my life!
Thanks for following me on this journey…
…through my 37 weeks of pregnancy!
