Sticky Fingers

It wasn’t my fault.

Mom said I could have one cookie.

Just one.

But they were right there on the counter, all warm and gooey like they wanted me to take them.

So I climbed the stool ninja-style.

One became two.

Then three.

I lost count after the fourth... and then I heard Mom’s footsteps.

I panicked.

I hid the rest under my shirt.

Bad move.

Now I’ve got chocolate chips melting down my belly and fingers so sticky they’re practically glue.

Mom walks in.

She stares.

I freeze.

Then she bursts out laughing.

Sticky Fingers

“Sticky fingers strike again!” she says, grabbing a wipe.

She calls me her little cookie bandit.

I think I’m off the hook... until she hands me the broom.

Worth it.

It was too soon for the baby to be coming out, or was it... (con’t from issue 34)

My water broke at 9:45pm on June 8, 2000.

Baby wasn’t due until JULY 3rd.

Yet here I am lying in a hospital bed with monitors strapped to my belly, monitoring the baby inside me at 10:00am on June 9, 2000.

Hubby woke up when the doctor came in to check on me at 9:45am, but then he went to find something to eat after the doctor confirmed that baby wasn’t coming yet.

When he returned with food, I told him to call my mom. She was supposed to be coming to go with me for an ultrasound appointment.

Where was I? Oh Yeah…

Keep stress levels low because I am pregnant but…

First, I had the morning sickness which was stressful.

Second, there was all the talk of the world coming to an end due to Y2K.

Third, I was bleeding vaginally.

Fourth, MS made me a paraplegic.

Fifth, my heart rate went above 200 beats per minute.

Sixth, my husband had to be called back to the hospital because the doctors wanted to STOP MY HEART!!!!!

Seventh, my baby could die so we could save my life!

Eighth, why am I still in the hospital?

Ninth, complications for the baby just to do a test?

Tenth, waiting for the results from that radioactive isotope test!

Eleventh, what’s in the bag?

Twelfth, Oranges and needles?

Thirteenth, Do I have diabetes too?

Fourteenth, MS confirmed?

Fifteen, MS confirmed!!! How?

Sixteen, Call Mom to help?

Seventeen, How’s the baby doing?

Eighteen, What’s this pain I keep feeling?

Nineteen, Was I kicked by a horse?

Twenty, What’s next?

Twenty-One, Can I get an epidural?

Twenty-Two, What is this pain?

Twenty-Three, What does labor feel like?

Twenty-Four, Why am I wet?

Twenty-Five, Go to the hospital, really?

Twenty-Six, Are we gonna make it?

Twenty-Seven, I will not get into that wheelchair!

Twenty-Eight, Isn’t it too soon?

With all the craziness that had been happening during this night, I remembered that I had a previously scheduled ultrasound, and my mom was planning on coming with me. She was excited to “see the baby”.

After the doctor left the room, I asked my husband to call my mom.

She was already on her way to my house for the ultrasound appointment.

When she answered the phone, my husband said to her that the appointment was canceled.

Of course, grandma got worried and asked why it was canceled.

To which my husband responded, “Because we are at the hospital waiting for baby to arrive!”

Grandma got super excited!

We asked her to go to the house and check on the dogs because we had been at the hospital all-night waiting for baby to appear.

We all were worried because baby wasn’t due until July 3rd.

I was only 37 weeks pregnant.

My cervix wasn’t cooperating to let the baby out.

Is this what is supposed to happen?

Back to that in the next newsletter…
