ā€œThe Blanket Fort Pactā€

It started with a rainy afternoon and a simple idea: Let’s build a blanket fort.

Dad grabbed chairs, Mom tossed over fuzzy blankets, and the kids strung up fairy lights like little engineers of coziness.

It was meant to be a quick rainy day distraction, but once it was built, no one wanted to leave.

Inside that fort, stories were told, giggles echoed, and secrets were whispered under the soft twinkle of battery lights.

Every weekend after, the family rebuilt it—sometimes bigger, sometimes with themes (pirate ship week was legendary).

Over time, it became a tradition.

Years later, at a family reunion, they built one again —

This time with grown-up kids and grandkids.

From one rainy day idea came a lasting legacy: the Fort Pact.

The Blanket Fort Pact

Simple? Yes.

But amazing in the way it stitched a family together with threads of laughter and love.

When was the last time you built a blanket fort?

Why am I wet?...(continued from Issue #30)

I was 37 weeks pregnant.

I have been taking insulin shots 2 times per day and checking my blood sugar levels at least 4 times a day.

I used to hate needles. Don’t get me wrong, I still hate needles, but I will do anything to protect this innocent life growing inside of me.

What am I up to now? Let’s see…

Keep stress levels low because I am pregnant but…

First, I had the morning sickness which was stressful.

Second, there was all the talk of the world coming to an end due to Y2K.

Third, I was bleeding vaginally.

Fourth, MS made me a paraplegic.

Fifth, my heart rate went above 200 beats per minute.

Sixth, my husband had to be called back to the hospital because the doctors wanted to STOP MY HEART!!!!!

Seventh, my baby could die so we could save my life!

Eighth, why am I still in the hospital?

Ninth, complications for the baby just to do a test?

Tenth, waiting for the results from that radioactive isotope test!

Eleventh, what’s in the bag?

Twelfth, Oranges and needles?

Thirteenth, Do I have diabetes too?

Fourteenth, MS confirmed?

Fifteen, MS confirmed!!! How?

Sixteen, Call Mom to help?

Seventeen, How’s the baby doing?

Eighteen, What’s this pain I keep feeling?

Nineteen, Was I kicked by a horse?

Twenty, What’s next?

Twenty-One, Can I get an epidural?

Twenty-Two, What is this pain?

Twenty-Three, What does labor feel like?

Twenty-Four, Why am I wet?

My husband had just left to take our 2 dogs for their long nightly walk when I felt a pop and my shorts were suddenly all wet.

Did I pee myself?

That’s possible since the baby keeps dancing on my bladder.

But I cannot figure out what this new pain is.

This new pain wasn’t Braxton Hicks. This new pain was shooting up and down my spine.

I tried waiting for my husband to return with the dogs, but instinct told me to call my OB/GYN.

When the doctor answered the phone, she asked me, ā€œHow far apart are your contractions?ā€

ā€œI don’t know what a contraction feels like, but I keep getting these pains up and down my spine.ā€

Her response was, ā€œIt sounds like you are having back labor, and your water broke. Get to the hospital now.ā€

When hubby returned, I was still talking with the doctor, he took the phone and followed her instructions, but not until he stated, ā€œIt’s not time yet, we haven’t picked out a boy name yet.ā€

Off to the hospital we go, but…

Back to that in the next newsletter…
