āMomās Lap, My WorldāThereās a sacred kind of crying ā the kind that only happens in your motherās arms. It doesn't matter how grown you are, how strong you've learned to be. In her embrace, you become every version of yourself: the hopeful child, the broken-hearted teen, the tired adult. I sank into her warmth, sobs tearing through me like storms across a spring sky. She didnāt try to fix it. She didnāt rush me. She simply held me, her hands smoothing my hair, her whispered love stitching up the places life had worn thin. In that quiet, broken moment, I realized that sometimes healing doesn't come from solutions ā it comes from being seen, from being wrapped in a love so ancient and fierce that it catches you when you fall. A mother's arms are not just a place to cry. They are a place to rise again. | ![]() Momās Lap, My World The honest heart of motherhood, framed by a wheeled horizon. Whatās next?... (Continued from issue 26)
My mom had been staying with us in my home after I was released from the hospital after my exacerbation from MS.
Who came up with that word? Why canāt I just call it a relapse?
I went paralyzed from the waist down similar to when I experienced it back when I was 16 years old except this time my heart kept me in the hospital longer because it had gone up to 200 beats per minute.
My mom was always there by my side through all the tests and the questions about my health. I wouldnāt be the mom that I am today if it wasnāt for the SuperMOM example I learned from her!
In keeping with her SuperMOM example she had to return to my much younger early teenage brothers at her home to keep them out of trouble.
I was OK with that because I was doing fine by this time. Hubby and I started our Lamaze classes. The OBGYN doctors were pleased with the size of the baby growing inside of me. My neurologist was pleased with my ability to walk.
What am I up to now? Letās seeā¦
Keep stress levels low because I am pregnant butā¦
First, I had the morning sickness, which was stressful.
Second, there was all the talk of the world coming to an end due to Y2K.
Third, I was bleeding vaginally.
Fourth, MS made me a paraplegic.
Fifth, my heart rate went above 200 beats per minute.
Sixth, my husband had to be called back to the hospital because the doctors wanted to STOP MY HEART!!!!!
Seventh, my baby could die, so we could save my life!
Eighth, why am I still in the hospital?
Ninth, complications for the baby just to do a test?
Tenth, waiting for the results from that radioactive isotope test!
Eleventh, whatās in the bag?
Twelfth, Oranges and needles?
Thirteenth, Do I have diabetes too?
Fourteenth, MS confirmed?
Fifteen, MS confirmed!!! How?
Sixteen, Call Mom to help?
Seventeen, Howās the baby doing?
Eighteen, Whatās this pain I keep feeling?
Nineteen, Was I kicked by a horse?
Twenty, Whatās next?
My Mom had been at her home with my younger brothers. She invited me and my husband to come hang out at her house over the weekend for a pool party.
I really didnāt want to go. Those so-called Braxton Hicks were driving me crazy. And I believe that baby decided to hang on to my ribcage because that was where most of the pressure was.
No matter how much I pushed down on what I believed was the babyās foot, it would push back even more.
I went anyway because I love being by the pool.
When we got close to her house, the street was so full of cars that we almost didnāt have a place to park our car. Luckily, there was still a space in her driveway for us to park.
Mom told me that it was just going to be the family at the house that weekend, so I came ready for just lounging around the house and the pool.
This weekend was 1 month before the babyās due date, little did I know that my MOM, the SuperMOM, was planning a baby shower behind my back and had invited everyone to the baby shower disguised as a āpool partyā.
Surprised me for sure!
When I look at pictures from that day, I know I was happy for the party, but the look on my face showed the pains I kept feeling on and off again.
Braxton Hicks said that these pains are supposed to prepare the woman for actual labor pain.
When will I know the difference?
Back to that in the next newsletterā¦
PS ā I love you, MOM! Thanks for being the best example of a SuperMOM!!!!
